A Chicago Cubs World Series Win vs A Donald Trump Election Loss: You Can Only Have One
Yesterday, I was sitting around watching Meet The Press Daily, minding my own business when I received a Facebook message from my friend Debbie: So I have a hypothetical for you...if there's only enough good karma in the universe during the next 5 weeks for either a Cub World Series victory or a Trump defeat, which would you choose? I truly don't think there's enough for both to happen.
Damn her! She's a White Sox fan so I know her answer to her own hypothetical. She also has already won her baseball championship so that's another mark against her.
Apparently I need different friends that want me to be happy about more than just one thing!!
Our short conversation about her question went like this.... H: Depends on how long I have left to live. A year or two=Cubs. Anything more Trump defeat. I can deal with him for a short time. D: Good point about time. I think Trump could do a lot of damage in a short amount of time, however. H: True. But I'm dead, I don't care. Good luck with him! :-)
Let's take a little closer look at this.
For a long time Donald Trump didn't scare me. When the primaries were going on, I thought his views on the real issues were a lot more moderate than guys like Cruz, Rubio, Huckabee, Walker, etc. Those were the guys that really scared me. I was okay with Donnie winning the nomination, especially since I also felt he was unelectable.
I'm still pretty sure he isn't going to win this election. The numbers are against him and have been since the start. It's looking worse for him now, although it was getting scary for a couple of weeks. Still there are five weeks left until election day you just never know what can happen. Sigh!
Now onto the Cubs...we all know the numbers. 1908. One Hundred Eight years. Not to mention it's been so many years since the Cubs have even been in the World Series that I need a calculator to figure out that number (I'm pretty sure it's 71 but the math really is hard).
Like most Cubs fans, I just want one. I'm not greedy...just one, damnit! One World Series win before I check out. Most of us think this is the best chance in our lifetimes. This is the year! The Cubs have clearly been the best team in baseball in 2016 and it's been by a pretty wide margin. I'm telling you THIS IS OUR YEAR but it's the Cubs so you never know. Plus the playoffs are always a crap shoot where the best regular season team rarely wins so that makes it even tougher. Sigh!
I suppose if I really have to choose, then it has to be Trump losing the election. Even if I'm dead, I don't want to leave him to my children, their future children and all the future children. Obviously this is more important than baseball...but I keep thinking World Series. It's the World Series people...what would that be like? Hmmm...maybe the Cubs can get to the Series, lose and Trump can lose the election. There's always next year. We can be like the Royals. Get there and lose, come back the next year and win it all. Would that be okay? Debbie, is there enough Karma for that?
Between this election and the playoffs starting, it's going to be a lot of stress. As my bud Pooh said when he asked if the election was over and he was told it was only September, "FUCK"!!!!
Five weeks and thirty-five days from today and all of this will be done. PHEW! Good thing I have a lot of Valium stored up and I'm not sharing until mid-November.
I can't believe I've written so much about Donald Trump. Here's my piece about my trip to his non-event in Chicago.
