A Man and His Dog....sort of
The man in the picture is Barry Switzer This is his latest story.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Switzer, he was the head football coach at the University of Oklahoma. While there, his teams won three national championships. Later he became the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. One of his teams won the Super Bowl. He is one of just two football coaches to win NFL and NCAA football championships.
Switzer is also a dog lover and this is what his latest adventure is about.
A couple of weeks ago Switzer was out shopping on a very hot day. He came across a van and inside was a dog. The windows were open but he was worried about the dog. He opened the door and took the dog out of the van. Here's where it gets interesting.
He waited, along with the dog, for the people to return. Switzer then offered to buy the dog. It doesn't say how much he offered but it was accepted. Barry had bought himself a new puppy.
He immediately took the dog to the vet, had her checked out and made sure the dog had all his shots. The dog also was cleaned up and had her nails clipped. Switzer called it a day of beauty. The dog had a mani-pedi.
Switzer, 75, already had a bunch of dogs and started looking for a new home for the pup. He gave the dog to a family that lost their home in the tornado that devastated Moore, Oklahoma, last May.
Switzer said, " I want some loving family who loves dogs and cares about dogs like I do, to be able to have her."
He downplayed his actions, "I don't think I saved the puppy's life. I think the puppy had a life, but it wasn't going to be a as good a life as it's going to be now."
Barry Switzer...football coach, dog lover. For a family in Moore, Oklahoma and their new addition...it was a Barry good day.
