A music festival for old people
While we're starting to get over last weeks shocking death of Prince, we certainly aren't dealing well with all the musical deaths in the first four months of 2016. I'm constantly hearing one of these two sentences...I'm glad I got to see him in concert before he died...or.....Now I'll never get to see him.
Summer is around the corner and that means it's concert festival time. Most of the time these festivals are headlined by younger acts. If you miss them, chances are you'll get another chance or five. The shows themselves usually attract a younger crowd. Let's face it, if you're a Baby Boomer, especially an older Boomer, do you want to stand outside in a huge crowd, in hot, humid or rainy weather? I've got the festival for you.
About a week ago, there was a rumor that the people who promote the Coachella Festival in the southern California desert had plans for a three day super festival featuring a half dozen superstars. Roger Daltry of The Who confirmed it was on.
“I think it’s us and Roger Waters on the same day,” he told the Canadian media company Postmedia Network. “It’s a fantastic idea for a festival. It’s the greatest remains of our era.”
The rest of the weekend includes Paul McCartney with Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones with Neil Young. Each act will play a full set so figure about 4-6 hours of music per day. Not too bad plus the weather in Indio, in October, might be a little warm but not that bad. The only downside is going to be the price. You know it's going to be expensive....maybe very expensive.
But...this really could be the last chance to see the rock heroes of your life, all in the same place. Well maybe except for Keith Richards because you'll have another chance or five to see him.
I'm fairly sure I won't be going the night Roger Waters plays. This post is the reason why.
