April is a big month in the Parkinson's Disease community. We aim to make it smaller.
April is Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month. Yesterday was World Parkinson's Day for 2021.
This blog started almost nine years ago as a way to document how a relatively new diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease could and would affect someones everyday life activities. It's morphed into something else, which I consider a good thing. That showed that a somewhat normal life can be lived while living with Parkinson's.
But make no mistake, while my case of Parkinson's Disease is mostly under control, it's still there and it shows up more than occasionally. Also remember that everyone living with Parkinson's is different. While plenty of us are living mostly normal lives, there are more dealing with the devastating effects of the disease.
As of yet there is not a cure for Parkinson's Disease. We can only hope to slow down it degenerating movement. That's why each April the Parkinson's community tries to raise Awareness for the disease. That's why on April 11, we "celebrate" and honor the more than ten million people living with Parkinson's. Hopefully that celebration will end soon.
