Are you techie enough to drive a new car
We have a new ride. The lease on the former Lexus SUV was up, so it was replaced with another one. It should be easy, right? Do the hours of paperwork and get on with your life. Not quite!
You’d think there wouldn't be too many changes to the same model car in three years, right? WRONG!!
The car buying experience, which everyone dreads, has added a new dreaded experience—talking with the technology expert—and it’s a long talk.
Here is what I need to know about my car—in this order:
How to turn it on. How to adjust the seats and the mirrors. How to work the gear shifter (which has now become surprisingly complicated). How to work the heat and A/C. How to work the radio.
That's it—although maybe the radio thing should be listed higher.
But, Mr. Techie tells you about all these things that sound cool, but I’m not sure I need. Do I really need to send a text while I’m driving? Do I really want to?
Now I would like to try out all these new, cool, hip, techie features, but I zoned out on a lot of the technology talk. I was more concerned about that damn gear-shifting device.
Still, I do want to give some of this stuff a try. Radio-check!! Wireless phone charger-check. Asking Siri for directions to my doctor’s office—Hello Siri? Siri? Damn. Well, at least I did find The Beatles Channel.
Now, if I could only “Come Together” with the features on the car.
Yeah, I did say that all I needed was the basics, but I do want to know how to talk to Siri. I guess I’ll be headed back to the dealership to have another chat with the tech expert. The good news is they have free breakfast and their omelets are very good—did I mention that they're free? Win/win—maybe.
As The Who once sorta said, Meet the new car. Same as the old car. Ehh—not so much.
