Buddy Guy and Jeff Beck in concert: Old guys can still play the guitar
It was a night of guitar playing at Ravinia.
Legendary guitarists Buddy Guy and Jeff Beck are touring together this summer. Last night they played in in the north burbs of Chicago and showed that even at a combined age of 152, they still have it.
Beck is touring in support of his new album "Loud Hailer" and he played an hour set. Looking at him, you'd never guess he was 72 years old. The highlights of his set included Stevie Wonders "Superstition" and his encore of The Beatles "A Day In The Life."
Buddy Guy turned 80 two days ago. He's been a regular at Ravinia since the early 1990's. Since the death of B.B. King last year, Guy is the last of his generations blues guitarists.
Even at his age, Guy still has his chops. He did his guitar tricks such as playing with his clothes, drum sticks and a towel. There's a reason Guy was revered by Jimi Hendrix and why Mick Jagger called him "Buddy "M****F***" Guy.
Guy called out Beck to do one song together and acknowledged it was the British musicians like Beck that helped Americans learn about Blues artists such as Muddy Waters.
A great night of guitar in Highland Park. Here are some of the photos I took last night.
Today is also the 45th anniversary of The Concert For Bangladesh. This is the piece I wrote about the event .
