Chicago Teachers Strike: It's not about the money
"If Lori Lightfoot would agree to limit class size to fifteen, I would forget about everything else."
Today is day four of the Chicago teacher's strike. I visited four north side public schools to talk to the striking teachers and take a few photos. The above quote is from one of the pictured teachers. That sentiment was echoed at all four schools.
Yes, the money is important, but this strike is mostly about making the school experience better for the students. They want smaller class sizes...thirty-five is way too many. There is also a need for more nurses, social workers and librarians. One out of every three CPS school has a nurse. Imagine your child becoming ill at school and the only person they can get help from is the school's receptionist.
This strike is all about the kids. Support the teachers!
