Did you keep your resolutions in 2017?
We're down to the last ten days of 2017. It's that time where we reflect on the past year and look forward to the new upcoming one.
Everyone makes resolutions. You may not write them down but in your head you have some ideas about what you want to accomplish during the year. I made a list of seven things I wanted to accomplish in 2017. Let's take a look and see how I did and then you can do your own resolution check.
I wanted to get healthier. That really didn't happen. The stomach problems from last year are still there and actually got worse during the summer. It's a work in progress. I've gained ten pounds during the year. That's not horrendous but not great. I'm now ignoring a urologist's plan to get rid of a kidney stone so I can leave town next week. Probably not a great choice. The good news is there no progression of Parkinson's. That's a big plus but I'd still give this resolution a failing mark.
Finish writing a children's book. DONE!! I had been working on this in late 2016 and finished it in early 2017. It's still not published but the writing is finished. It's time to see about publishing it and get to work on it's sequel.
Visit five new states in the U.S. Didn't quite get there. I did make it to North and South Carolina during the summer but that was it. I have a plan to take a train trip to Oregon and Washington but that will have to wait until 2018.
Relearn to drive a car. I had driven only one time in the last five years and thought it was time to get back behind the wheel. I took a two hour driving lesson and it went okay. It's not quite like that bike riding again thing but if I had to drive somewhere, I could do it....maybe a little shaky but I can get there.
I wanted to go to places that I tell everyone I like. There are a lot of things to do in Chicago. I like to tell people I go to these places, but rarely if ever go. I decided to change that in 2017...and I did. I went to Lincoln Park Zoo and the Art Institute early in the year. I went to a few movies after not being in a theater for a couple of years. I didn't make it to the Planetarium or the Museum of Science and Industry but overall, I did okay on this one.
I wanted to see a classical music concert. I'm not a big fan of classical music. I'll watch it on television and I recognize the amazing talent of the musicians but I can only handle it in small pieces. After seeing a phenomenal pianist at the Kennedy Center Awards program, I decided I needed to see a live performance. It was off to Millennium Park to check out some Beethoven. Okay, okay, okay...I really tried. Maybe Opera in 2018? Not likely!
Quit procrastinating. I don't know how to grade this one. I did some things in a timely manner. Others I blew off with a there's always tomorrow excuse. I still have ten days to decide on this...HA!!
So that's my list and it looks like I did okay. I hit on some, missed on others and I think that's pretty normal. How did you do on your resolutions? Don't sweat it too much. We get to start anew in less than two weeks.
