Do That To Me One More Time
The Captain and Tennille are getting divorced. After almost 40 years of marriage, they are calling it quits.
For those of you under 100 years old and are wondering who are these two, they are a pop duo from the '70s....the 1970's. Today's title "Do That To Me One More Time" was a big hit, but they're mostly known for their monster hit "Love Will Keep Us Together."
I was wondering why a couple divorces after such a long time. I did some investigating. They have no children so it was just the two of them. I thought that makes the parting even stranger.
Then I found out that The Captain has had Parkinson's-like symptoms since the 1990's. In 2009, Toni Tennille announced her husband had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. A year later, she backtracked and said it was just symptoms. In either case it was greatly affecting his ability to play keyboards.
I did some more digging because the diagnosis and the changing of it interested me. I wanted to see if there was a lot of this. Found nothing. I also left messages on The Parkinson's Foundation and The Michael J. Fox Foundation's Facebook pages. No responses yet.
His misdiagnosis is understandable. The symptoms for Parkinson's mirror so many other things, including aging, that it's hard and painstaking to get a proper diagnosis,
In any case, Daryl Dragon, aka The Captain, is a part of the Parkinson's community. I'd welcome him to it but he's been here a lot longer than me. As they say about aging, it's not a great thing but it beats the alternative.
As for the divorce, we may never know what really happened, but as of today it doesn't look like Tennille will be asking The Captain to "Do That To Me One More Time."
