Donald Trump is responsible for the deaths of one hundred sixty-seven people
Until ten days ago were you familiar with the name Qasem Soleimani? If you were congratulation on being part of the ten percent of the population that was...and that figure may be too many. Hell, Donald Trump didn't know who he was until he was elected President. Sadly, for one hundred sixty-seven innocent people, he found out.
I like to think I'm informed about many things that occur in our atmosphere. I watch between two and three hours of news a day. I even admit to turning to Fox on occasion so I can see what thee other side is thinking. When I heard that the United States assassinated took out (I was right the first time) assassinated Soleimani on January 2, 2020, I was surprised that he wasn't on my radar.
Like many of you, I decided to do a little research. I did some Googling, went to Wikipedia and read a few newspapers. I thought hmmm...we picked that guy to assassinate? That was the guy Trump chose to make a statement?
Don't get me wrong, I know he was a bad dude. I'm not one of those Democrats that Trump thinks is mourning Soleimani. Even though he was one of the main forces in the eradication of ISIS, more than our current President, his bad trumps the good. I'm not sorry he's gone. However, I am sorry that killing him led to repercussions that eventually led to one hundred and seventy-six innocent people dying.
Let's go back to the beginning....well the Donald Trump beginning. He started with backing out of the Iran treaty. Yeah, you might not have liked it. I know it wasn't perfect. Yeah, you're pissed off that Iran was given so much money, even though the money belonged to them. But what was done was done. And it was working, at least to the extent that anything can work with the Iranian regime. The only reason Trump made that move was because one name on it belonged to Barack Obama. Nothing else. By the way, if it was so bad, how come not one of our allies who also signed did the same thing? Not. A. Single ONE!!!
However, all that is in the past. Let's get current. Trump has had Soleimani on his radar for months. He's been wanting to take him out since last summer. He needed a reason....real or imaginary didn't matter. Between an American citizen being killed and an "imminent threat", he had his reason. It didn't matter that no one from his administration could agree on what that imminent threat was or how imminent it was.
So Soleimani is dead. Nobody thinks that could be the end of it, could they? Even Trump has to know that Iran is going to respond, right? And they do by firing missiles at our military bases in Iraq. No damage, no injuries, no deaths...all a good thing. We're even now, right? Everyone can move on with their lives, right? That's what normal folks would do, but nothing is normal here...not even close to normal. Because Donald Trump is who he is, you know breaking even isn't good enough. He has to end up on the winning side, even if the winning is only in his head. The heads of Iran realizes this and prepares for another attack. An airplane shows up in their airspace. It's mistaken for an American fighter jet. They shoot it down. Disastrously, one hundred-sixty seven people, who were headed to the Ukraine and Canada, are dead.
What Iran did was accidental. Tragic, but an accident. What Trump did was anything but an accident. His unnecessary act to take out one of the heads of a foreign government set all the following actions in motion. The responsibility for the loss of all the lives belongs to him. It's on the head of Donald Trump. In his seventy-three years of living, Donald Trump has done plenty of despicable things. Causing the deaths of one hundred seventy-six people has to be at the top of the list. It should be top line of his legacy.
In the last two days, Donald Trump has visited New Orleans and Milwaukee. His supporters cheered him raucously. While they were cheering, I hope they were thinking of those who lost their lives in Iran. I also hope that Donald Trump is thinking about them...for the rest of his life.
