Dr. Anthony Fauci throwing out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals opening day is going to piss off Donald Trump
"I hope I don't bounce it."~Dr. Anthony Fauci
Donald Trump has a thin skin. He takes even the smallest slight personally.
The last time baseball was played in Washington D.C. was October 27, 2019. It was game 5 of the World Series. In attendance that night was the president of the United States, Donald Trump. He was in a suite with his wife and other Republican lackeys. When he was announced to a sell-out D.C. crowd, he was loudly booed. You know he didn't take it well.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, tonight is opener for major league baseball. The New York Yankees will be visiting the champion Washington Nationals. It's the first time baseball will be played in the nation's capital since that October night. The stadium will be empty except for the players, managers, coaches and umpires, and other essential people needed to put on a ball game. It will be an eerie site, but like so many things in our lives these day, that's 2020.
Throwing out the first pitch at any baseball game is an honor. To do it on opening day, for the defending champions is an extra special honor. In a city like Washington, you'd think they would go with a politician. You'd think they try to get the president, right? Instead, the Nationals ask a man whose relationship with the president is hanging by a thin thread.
Throwing out the first pitch in a few hours is Dr. Anthony Fauci. BURN!!!
The team made this announcement:
“Dr. Fauci has been a true champion for our country during the Covid-19 pandemic and throughout his distinguished career, so it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 season and defend our World Series Championship title.”
The Nationals think science trumps bluster. Again...BURN!!!
Dr. Fauci grew up a baseball fan and he's been a supporter of the team since they relocated to Washington in 2005. He also has been seen wearing a Nationals protective mask during the pandemic. It makes sense that he gets the honor of the first pitch.
Still, you have to know that this is getting under the skin of Trump big time. You can only imagine how much he's been whining about this at the White House. The only thing that could make this better is if players kneel for the National Anthem. Oh please, let this happen!!
BURN!!!
