Feelin Alright
When I started this blog in April, it was mainly to talk about the effects of Parkinson's. And man, did I have a backload of stories.
Now I seem to be all caught up. Hmmm...what to do?
I've been going through some of my recent pieces and they don't seem to be about Parkinson's. Even yesterday's epic about mental help...errr...health could have been written by someone with no physical ailments.
In the last month, I've touched upon Cancer, Kennedys and Customer Service...but nothing directly about Parkinson's.
There's a reason for this....I'm Feelin Alright...kinda.
In the beginning my balance was my biggest problem. In the last year, I've learned how to handle that. I still can't walk a straight line, but I've made adjustments so I don't bump into people and things.
It also means I'm better on stairs. Not as many elevators as a year ago.
What this means is I haven't been falling lately. This is a good thing for my body. The people at Whole Foods now welcome me into the store with open arms. It does make my blog less funny.
Before you go running off, looking for new sources of comedy entertainment, I do have some new symptoms.
The tremors that are most associated with Parkinson's are getting worse. I'm no longer in the 30% of patients that don't have them.
In real life that's not a good thing but for the blog, it could be big time laughs.
It even affects how I write the blog. Almost every piece is written first in longhand. I edit and then let it sit overnight. The next morning I type it out, edit once more, and then publish. There are times in the process that I can't read what I wrote. Usually the context helps me figure it out but there are times I look at something and wonder WTF is that!
Maybe one day I'll scan, copy and print the original and you can try to read it. I can sit back and wait for the laughter and comments.
But until then, I'll just keep grinding out the columns. If you need pratfalls, you'll have to watch the Three Stooges.
