Five days with the cicadas
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeereeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
You know that noise. It’s hard to get away from it.
For me, I started to notice it last Sunday. I was getting in the car to get breakfast when I saw my first one. A single cicada was lying in our driveway. When I told my partner about she asked if I had killed it. I told her no. There are hundreds of them. What’s the point? I wayyyy underestimated the number.

Wednesday, I was running a few errands. As I was walking back to the car, a woman was walking towards me. She stopped, shook a bit and ran her hand across her face and hair. A cicada had flown into her. She looked at me and laughed a little.

Thursday, I was in a weekly morning Zoom meeting. I take these at my desk in our basement. As I was talking, I suddenly stopped because I noticed that I could hear them while inside. It felt like they were inside the house. I admit it freaked me out a little—okay, more than a little.

Friday morning, I went shopping. When I finished and got into the car, I found one on the floor of the driver’s seat. I can’t figure out how it got there. I calmly brushed it out but I felt a strong need to wash my hands.

Friday afternoon, I went for my daily walk. All I could hear was that annoying high-pitched eeee-type noise. And those things seemed to be all over me. It was impossible to get away from them. Maybe it's my imagination, but I felt itchy the rest of the day. I needed to take a shower to get them off me.
It’s been a strange five days with these things. They don't bother me, but you know they are there 24/7. I've seen where other people try to interact with them. Why?
Five days down—three to five weeks to go—or something close to that. The countdown to 2041 will then begin. OY!!!!
