Four Musical Women You'll See This Summer
Most likely you know about all of them. Exciting things are happening in their careers.
St. Vincent
Real name is Annie Clark. Age 30. Born in Tulsa, grew up in Dallas. Debut album in 2007 was the first of three solo albums. Came into the limelight in 2012 with "Love the Giant", an album with David Byrne from Talking Heads. Followed the album with a well received tour. Has a new CD called St. Vincent and will be on tour again throughout the Spring and Summer.
SUSAN TEDESCHI
Age 43. Born in Boston. Attended Berklee School of Music Put together her own band. Played at all-women festival "Lilith Fair" Opened for B.B. King, The Allman Brothers Band, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. In 2001, married guitarist Derek Trucks. They have two children. In 2010, they formed the Tedeschi Trucks Band. First album, "Regulator", won a Grammy for Best Blues Album. Described as a cross between Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin. She claims both as influences. Latest album is "Made Up Mind" and a world wide tour will go on through the summer.
CHRISTINE McVIE
Age 70. Hitting the road again. Joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970. Was married to FM bassist John McVie. In 1974, FM moved to the US. Nicks and Buckingham joined the band. 1976, 'Rumors" detailed the bands more than shaky romances. McVie's songs included "You Making Loving Fun" and "Don't Stop" Rumors has sold over 40 million copies worldwide. One of the highest selling albums of all-time. 1998, McVie leaves the band. September 2013, in London, Christine joins the band to perform "Don't Stop". Her first performance with Fleetwood Mac in 15 years. Chris is now back as a regular with Fleetwood Mac. They announced over 30 tour dates and look for a new album.
CAROLE KING
Age 72. Grew up in New York City. Songwriter with Gerry Goffin in the 1960's. Songs included "Chains", "Up on the Roof" and "One Fine Day". Moved to L.A. and started making her own records. In 1971, "Tapestry" won 4 Grammys including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for "It's Too Late". #1 on the Billboard charts for 15 weeks and sold over 25 million copies. 10 albums in the 1970's. Production slowed with just two records since 2000. A revival of her music started with the Troubadour Reunion Tour with James Taylor, in 2010. Led to a Gold album. In January 2014, a Broadway show of her life and music, 'Beautiful: The Carole King Musical"
Big things are happening now for these four women. It will be interesting to see how the year progresses the all four.
