Giving Tuesday is over: What are you doing now to help?
Another Giving Tuesday has come and gone. It started five years ago as a response to the commercialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It's an opportunity for people to forget about themselves and help others for the holiday season.
Giving Tuesday is a wonderful idea and very successful. Among the organizations I saw people donating to yesterday were numerous disease foundation, hospitals, schools, animal groups, homeless shelters, religious groups and many other non-profits. Every donation, no matter how small, is appreciated and needed.
But now Giving Tuesday is over. What are you doing for the next 364ish days? Are you going to help? How can you help?
While money is important, your time is just as important! A day a month? A day every other month? Whatever you can give because every little bit helps.
It's easy to get involved. Find something you're interested in and hit Google. For instance, Animal rights groups in Chicago has over four million results. Homeless shelters in Chicago has over two million results. Just make a call or send an email and you could be preparing a meal at a shelter or church or helping out with the dogs at a no-kill animal shelter. It's that simple.
Don't wait until the next Giving Tuesday to help. Get involved! It's a win/win because not only are you helping, it feels good. Get involved!
