Going to California With An Aching In My Heart
Made up my mind to make a new start Going to California with an aching in my heart.
This is my last day at my "home" in Lincoln Park. Tomorrow, I'm off to Los Angeles for a month. I'm excited and sad at the same time. I'm leaving people with whom I've shared a big chunk of my life. Good times...bad times...we've seen our share.
I've never lived any place where I've laughed so much. There's a lot of funny stuff around here...both ha ha and peculiar. I've also never lived any place where I've seen such sadness and desperation. People fighting for their existence. Emotions run in all directions around here.
Plus, I love Lincoln Park. You can walk to the zoo and the Lake. Easy access to buses and trains. Nightlife!!
This is a townhome less than a block from where I live. It's for sale. I stopped in at an open house for this place. Nice digs. You can own it for a cool $2 mil! I almost made an offer.
You know what the owners think about having a shelter less than a block away from a home they're trying to sell? Fuck em if they can't take a joke!
So do the math....residents + location= separation anxiety.
But really it's about the relationships. I love these folks. They're my peeps. I'm very protective of all of them...even the ones who annoy me. A few may be lifelong friends. Some will never be seen again. None will be forgotten. They're in my soul.
But it's time to move on. SoCal is next. It's the start of a new chapter. Keep the pages turning.
All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey. I've been for a walk on a winter's day. I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A. California dreaming on such a winter's day
