Graham Nash is living his best life 'Now'
“I called this album ‘Now’ because that’s what this work is. It’s me. Now. In this moment in my life.”
When you reach a certain age you become retrospective about what your life has been like. It’s easy to look back and celebrate the highs while at the same time lamenting the low points and bad choices. It’s rare that you find the happiest part of your life when you reach your eighties, but apparently, that’s what has happened to legendary musician Graham Nash. He’s so happy in his relatively new, late-in-life relationship that he wants the world to know all about it. And that’s what he’s doing in his new album, ‘Now.’
When you think about Nash’s music, the themes are easy to categorize. He basically writes about romance/relationships and also the political world as he sees it. It’s brought us songs such as “Our House” and “Better Days” as well as “Military Madness” and “Chicago.” His latest album is no different.
"I believe that my new album Now is the most personal one I have ever made. "At this point in my life, that's something to say."
While there are a couple of songs that let us know how he feels about the current state of the world, and Donald Trump and his supporters in particular, what stands out about ‘Now’ are the love songs he has written for his new wife, Amy.
Nash met artist Amy Grantham in 2016. He moved to New York City to be with her and they married in 2019. He claims this is the happiest he’s ever been in a relationship. Half the songs in this album tell the world about his feeling for the woman in his life. My favorites are “Right Now”, “Follow Your Heart” and “When It Comes to You.”
‘Now’ is a nice album with many lovely sentiments. One thing about Graham Nash the musician, is, for the most part, his tunes have always been an easy listen. His melodies are pretty and easily accessible. They stick in your head. The same can be said about ‘Now.’ While you probably won’t be singing along to them a decade from now like you still do with “Our House, they are a wonderful tribute to the new love in his life. Nothing wrong with that at age eighty-one. Nothing wrong with that at all.
