Happy Medical Marijuana Day In Illinois
It's opening day for medical marijuana in Illinois.
Yep...they're lined up outside a dispensary in north suburban Mundelein. It's one of eight places you can purchase medical marijuana in the state.
It's been more than two years since Governor Pat Quinn signed the bill which allowed this day to happen. I remember writing this whining about how the bill was sitting on his desk for him to sign. A few days later I wrote this one after he decided to get off his ass and make it an official law. Am I taking credit for medical marijuana finally occurring in Illinois? Sure...why the hell not (eyeroll).
So here's the good news.....
If you have one of the 40 approved conditions, have been fingerprinted and have been approved after a criminal background check; then you may be one of the 3,300 approved patients that have been sent ID cards that will let you buy pot. The real good news you can legally buy 2.5 ounces every two weeks. That is a lot of shit for you and your state approved friends to smoke, eat or drink.
I guess it's a start but it's still going to be a pain in the ass to get marijuana in Illinois. Your best bet is to move to Colorado, California or Washington. If you're really desperate, ask your kids.
Here's a piece I wrote about medical marijuana while I was in Los Angeles last February. I wrote more about pot two days later. Hmmm...I write a lot about weed. You'd think I'd have a little experience about this stuff!
