Happy Melanoma Monday
May is Melanoma Awareness Month. Today is Melanoma Monday. The idea is to let people know of the dangers of Melanoma.
I tend to downplay the effectiveness of Awareness Months. There are hundreds of them. In this month alone there are sixteen causes having an Awareness month. It ranges from ALS to Zombie Awareness Month.
Are you kidding me...fucking Zombies have a month?
In real life Zombies won't kill you. Melanoma will.
Your chances of getting involved with a zombie=0%. Your chances of getting a skin cancer is 1 out of 5=20%. I'd rather take my chances with a zombie.
So what can you do to lessen your chances of getting skin Cancer and Melanoma? 1. Use Sunscreen 2. Wear hats 3. Sunglasses 4. Do a monthly body check 5. See your dermatologist on a regular basis
It's pretty simple, isn't it? You'd think more people would do this, right?
I know it feels good to let the sun and its warmth hit your face and your body, but every time you do that it increases your chances of getting skin Cancer.
Remember Billy Crystal when he did an imitation of Fernando Lamas on Saturday Night Live? He had a great sun tan. "It's better to look good than to feel good."
It's a lie!
This Melanoma piece isn't just a public service announcement. I have some experience with this. Here's part of my story.
Subscribing to my blog is a breeze. You don't even need to put on a hat or sunscreen to do it...unless you're outside. Just plug in your email address, click the link below and done. You can then read my blog at the beach but you better be using protection!
