I tried to take a mental health day and failed
There are times when you need a break from the news and your life. Tuesday was one of those days. I tried...I really tried. Really!
Monday was a big day. It was my daughter's birthday. Twenty-five years old is a milestone. Quarter of a century..OY. We went out for lunch and when it was over at 1pm, I rushed home because I knew it was going to be a big news day. Sally Yates was going to testify in front of the Senate. Must see tv, for sure...and it didn't disappoint. Especially when she schooled that smug Ted Cruz and made him her bitch. The baby was so embarrassed he up and left the proceedings. Yep..that was some good television.
My problem was I watched the post game shows....almost all of them. Except for a break for some Hockey and Hoops, I was glued to the tube until Midnight. When I woke up this morning, I immediately put on the tv to catch the end of Morning Joe. After five minutes, I couldn't take it anymore. News burnout!!
I decided I was going to be nice to myself and take a mental health day. I'm was only going to do things that were fun and avoid everything political for one day. Just one day!! Not asking too much, was I?
I skipped watching Stephanie & Hallie on MSNBC for some music. They're my girls but they'll still be around tomorrow. Then it was time to go outside. You know the outdoors, don't you? Fresh air and sunshine! I went to Target to buy a new toaster, got some coffee and read a newspaper....an actual paper, not online news. Real news...well maybe fake news depending on who you ask.
Next came lunch. You can't go wrong with hot dogs. Not in Chicago. Good lunch and time to head on home.
It's now 1pm and it's time for the daily Sean Spicer press briefing. Spicey is pretty entertaining and I knew he was going to spend the time dissing Sally Yates but I didn't break. I didn't even bend a little. Instead I finished Season One of "Masters of Sex". Yeah, I know..I'm years behind but that's another story for another blog. It was a great decision. Spicey vs a naked Lizzy Caplan is no contest. NONE!!
I'm done with Lizzie and the gang, now it's time for baseball. Cubs-Rockies in the first game of a doubleheader. This day of self indulgence is going great so far. The game didn't go well for the Cubs. Rockies with a big lead early so I kicked it back with a nap. More self indulgence! Little did I know I what I was going to wake up to....and it was such a nice nap, too.
I wake up and have about thirty minutes before I hook up with buds (friends not marijuana although..) to go to the White Sox-Twins game. I turn on the tv to check the weather to see if I need my winter clothes for the game. The bottom of the screen flashes these ominous words....BREAKING NEWS: COMEY FIRED!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
I was so close....oh so close! These people in the 45 administration just can't help themselves. There's never an easy day with them. Never! It's every day. EVERY. FUCKING. DAY!!! Sigh.
I spent the thirty minutes getting caught up before leaving for the game. It's hard to believe that thirty minutes of news can ruin eight hours of fun, relaxation and peace but that's what happened. That's Donald Trump.
Tuesday is starting to wind down. The ball game was cold but fun. Dog Night at the Cell or whatever they are calling the place now. I'm chilling out with some Colbert, some tunes and writing about it all. I still think a day of being good to yourself is a good idea but I just don't know if can happen under this regime. I think I'll try it every so often and we'll see how it goes. Tomorrow won't be one of those days and I'm looking forward to catching up on all that I missed. Spicey's presser is just twelve hours away!!!
I spend a lot of time obsessing over and writing about these people. It's stressful.
