A few years ago, a friend was in Chicago. She was leading a group of tourists who had never been to the city. When she told me their itinerary, my response to each one was either “I’ve never been there” or “I haven’t been there since my kids were little.
They went to museums, rooftop bars, plays, and a variety of restaurants. I went with them on a tour of pizza restaurants, from which I finally recovered. Pro tip—don’t make Pequods the final stop.
The reason for bringing this up is if I’m going to continue this exercise, I need to find something new to write about each year. Last year it was a different restaurant each month. It went well until I hit four hot dog joints in one week—I have finally recovered from that one, too.
This year, I’m going to go somewhere in the Chicagoland area that I haven’t been in years or decades or at all. I’m already thinking about four museums (I know I won’t get to all of them), two zoos, a sports venue (which will be painful since all of our teams are pathetic) a relatively new concert venue (which includes standing for the entire show. Oy!!!) And then, I’ll tell you about it and if I’ll ever be returning.
If anyone has any suggestions, I’m somewhat open to them—Keyward is somewhat. I’m also somewhat open to people joining me on these adventures—again the keyword is somewhat.
So, maybe I’ll see you around town, but probably not unless you’re a tourist. And if you are a tourist, try to hit Pequod’s for your pizza fix!! They really are good!!
Great idea!
