I'm Going To Pitchfork
Those are words I never thought would ever come out of my mouth.
If you aren't familiar with Pitchfork, it's a three day music festival, in a park on Chicago's West Side. There will be dozens of bands playing, none of which I've heard of. The crowd for the three days is expected to be 500,000.
ONE HALF MILLION PEOPLE!
So you can see why I'm not likely to go there. Sixty year old guys with neurological issues don't do well in crowds.
But......
Each year I make a list about who I want to see in concert. I'm accused of not listening to music that's less than 40 years old and there is some truth in that. But when it comes to live music, I like to see bands I've never seen before.
This was my wish list for 2015....Joe Bonamassa, Beth Hart, Tedeschi-Trucks and Wilco.
Bonamassa- done next month. Tedeschi-Trucks- Ravinia this summer Beth- Missed her while out in Los Angeles Wilco-???
I've been wanting to see Wilco for a few years. Last summer, Jeff Tweedy was scheduled to do a free show at Taste of Chicago. His solo act would have been close enough for me. It rained all day and the concert was cancelled.
Recently I added another name to my list. Sleater-Kinney.
I knew the name but my daughter gave me their details. They've been around for some time but broke up for nine years. They're a three piece girl band. Imagine a garage band, guitar centric and a vocalist that channels Chrissie Hynde.
Good stuff!
I listened to their latest album, which has received rave reviews from everyone, and thought I need to see this band. They're in the middle of a nationwide tour but have already been to Chicago.
Which brings us back to Pitchfork....
I came across this article giving the details for Pitchfork 2015. Guess who the headliners will be on two of the nights? C'mon, I know you can get this!
Yeah! Wilco and Sleater-Kinney.
That takes care of my live music bucket list for the year!
I realize doing this may take me out of my comfort zone....Hell, no may about it. It will. But I'm up for new adventures. Plus anywhere there's good guitar, I'm there and Carrie Brownstein brings it good.
The Pitchfork Festival runs July 17-19, at Union Park, in Chicago. Three day passes are $150. Single day passes are $65.
