International Guitar Month ends with some of the living legends of the guiatr
Today is the finale of the International Guitar Month series. We’ve seen legends from all genres of music. Today we feature some guitar heroes who are still alive, well and performing. From “Layla” to “Stairway”, here’s some of the greatest guitar music ever made.
In his early days, fans of Eric Clapton were calling him “God.” While that may be an overstatement of his skills, there’s no question that he’s one of the greatest guitarists ever.
One of the highlights of Woodstock was Carlos Santana and his band performing “Soul Sacrifice.” Over the last five decades, Santana has been entertaining us with his blend of rock, blues and Latin music.
Also appearing at Woodstock was The Who, with their guitarist Pete Townshend. Known for his energetic performances and his windmill guitar strokes, the band's musical catalog includes “Who’s Next”, “Tommy” and “Quadrophenia.”
He began his career as one of England’s most requested session guitarists. After a two-year stint with The Yardbirds, Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin and history was made. In the 1970s, the band sold almost three hundred million albums plus they filled stadiums throughout the world. On almost every list of great guitarists, you'll find Jimmy Page in the top five.
Many great guitarists didn’t get mentioned in this series. Shout out to Mark Knopfler, Joe Perry, Billy Gibbons, Steve Winwood, Steve Vai, The Edge and Django Reinhardt. That's it for International Guitar Month. Thanks for reading—I’m always grateful for your time.
