Is it okay for a member of congress to call the President a Mother.....?
Thursday was a big day for Congress. Lots of new members of the House of Representatives. Lots of Democrats. Lots of women. Lots of diversity. The House was starting to look like America looks in 2019.....finally!
One of the new members is Rashida Tlaib. It was a busy first day for the freshman Congresswoman.
She started her day by authoring an op-ed in the Detroit Free Press, stating that the House does not need to wait for the results of the Mueller investigation before starting impeachment proceedings.
"There is no requirement whatsoever that a president be charged with or be convicted of a crime before Congress can impeach him. They (those who say we must wait) also ignore the fact that many of the impeachable offenses committed by this president are beyond the scope of the special counsel’s investigation."
She followed that up by her swearing in as the new representative for Michigan's 13th District. Tlaib is one of the first two Muslim women to be elected to Congress.
Tlaib finished her day by making a speech at a MoveOn.org event. She told a story about a conversation she had with her son:
"And when your son looks at you and says, 'Momma, look you won, bullies don’t win,' and I said, 'Baby they don't,' because we’re gonna go in and impeach the motherfucker."
Rashida Tlaib hit an opening day trifecta....saving her best for last!
As you can imagine, calling the President of the United States a motherfucker gets a reaction.
New Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi said, "I don't like that language. I would never use that language." But she also said she wouldn't tell her colleagues how to speak. "It's a generational thing. It's how people talk."
Congressman Brad Sherman introduced an article of impeachment against Trump in July of 2017....less than six months into his presidency. While he's good with the talk of impeachment, he said he wouldn't use the type of language that he couldn't say in front of his nine year old daughter.
Trump's comment was that she should be ashamed to use such language in front of her nine year old son. He hasn't attacked her by making up a nickname for her yet....keyword is yet. He told reporters,"I thought her comments were disgraceful. She dishonored herself and dishonored her family. I think it was highly disrespectful to the United States of America."
Yes, he would certainly know about disrespecting the USA, wouldn't he?!
As for me, I'm not offended by the language...far from it. I've certainly called our current President that and maybe worse. Hell, I do that almost every day, whenever I see his face or hear his voice on my tv screen. I'm sure a lot of you do that, too.
But, we aren't a member of Congress. Should we hold them to a higher standard? Maybe! Maybe not!
Speaker Pelosi also said this, "I don't think it's anything worse than what the President has said."
Oh yeah....there's the President and his language/name calling: Pocahontas, Lyin Ted, Little Marco, Crooked Hillary, Adam Schitt, Shithole countries and this classic which I'm sure makes his young child proud:
"I moved on her, and I failed. I'll admit it. I did try and fuck her. She was married. And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, "I'll show you where they have some nice furniture." I took her out furniture—I moved on her like a bitch. But I couldn't get there. And she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony tits and everything. She's totally changed her look. I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything."
As for our new Congresswoman, Rashida Tlaib didn't back down. Not a single bit! In one Tweet she said, "I will always speak truth to power. #unapologeticallyMe." She followed up in another Tweet with, "This is not just about Donald Trump. This is about all of us. In the face of this constitutional crisis, we must rise."
Right on Congresswoman! Go get that motherfucker!
