It's Just Coffee
For those of you who didn't read yesterday's epic tale, here's a quick recap.
An acquaintance calls and tries to set me up with a woman. She's perfect for me because she hasn't had a date in 13 years. We exchange a few emails and set a day and time to meet.
Here's the rest of the story.....
We decide that we'll meet in a Panera Bread in my neighborhood. I get there first.
I'm walking around the restaurant when I get a text. " I'm here."
I find her at the counter. She has her coffee and a bagel. I've just saved 3 bucks. We're off to a good start.
She also looks pretty much like her picture. You'd be surprised how often that doesn't happen. We've been together for less than two minutes and we already have two checks in the plus column. Don't get too excited.
We sat down and started to eat, drink and chat. I needed to know why she hadn't been out with a man in thirteen years.
Here's why.....Her marriage lasted three months. When her husband left she was four months pregnant. She hasn't seen him since.
She had a few short term relationships over the years but hadn't met " the one."
Finally, in 1999, she found him....MR.RIGHT. The sad thing for her was she wasn't his MISS RIGHT.
She told me that she couldn't trust her instincts anymore. After 13 years, her family told her enough is enough. Get your ass back out there. They reached an agreement. She'll go on two dates by the end of the year. Guess who was #1?
We hung out for an hour. It was pleasant but there wasn't much of a connection. I walked her to her car. No kiss. No hug. Not even a handshake. Just goodbye.
I received a nice email from her. She thanked me for being date number one. That was her goal. I didn't return the email.
I'm ok with how it turned out. It was just an hour. She wasn't the perfect woman. She didn't need to be. It was just coffee.
