It's Time For The Summer Concert Season
The weather is heating up. You can feel those warm breezes coming in from the lake. It's time for the summer concert season. Here are some of the great Chicago area shows coming up.
We kick it off today with Mr. Cooper Moore performing at The Hideout. He's known throughout the area for his excellent Beatles covers, but he's breaking out new original material for today's gig.
Blue's Fest is always one of the more popular events in Chicago. They break out the big guns on the final evening. June 15: Aaron Neville at 6:45 and Dr. John at 8:15.
At Northerly Island, along the Lakefront: June 20- Widespread Panic with one of my favorites Tedeschi-Trucks Band. On July 18,19,20 there are three nights of Phish.
Taste of Chicago will have a couple more of my favorites. July 11 will have Emmylou Harris and the next night features Wilco frontman, Jeff Tweedy.
The United Center always has some big name concerts. This summer is no different. Queen plays on June 19th and Paul McCartney returns to Chicago on July 9.
The Chicago Theater is one of the nicest venues in the area. A pair from two of the biggest bands from the 60's highlight their schedule. Ringo gets a little help from his All-Starr Band on June 24. John Fogerty from Creedence Clearwater Revival is there on July 27.
Wrigley Field is now the place where music is better than baseball. You can even sit outside the park and hear the music clearly. On July 18, Billy Joel makes his second Wrigley appearance. The next night features country music star Blake Shelton.
If you want to venture outside the area, The Horseshoe Casino, in Hammond, Indiana features Boz Scaggs, on July 25. Steely Dan will play there on August 17.
Finally, The Ravinia Festival, in Highland Park, has it's usual eclectic mix of Classical, Jazz, Blues and Rock music. The highlights include two nights of James Taylor on July 26 & 27. On August 28, there's a guitar doubleheader with Z Z Top and Jeff Beck.
These are just some of the local shows this summer. There will also be plenty of local festivals and free concerts as well as Summerfest in Milwaukee.
A lot of these acts will be touring so check your local area listings.
Bring on Summer....bring on the tunes.
