John McCain vs Donald Trump: Their quotes show who is the real American hero
John McCain died on Saturday. We've seen tributes from both Republican and Democratic politicians, reporters from all the major networks and newspapers, and even ordinary citizens who didn't agree with many of his policies and views.
The one person missing from this list is the current president of the United States. Yes, he tweeted out some words to the family but nothing about the man himself. He even put the kibosh on a tribute written by the White House. Not exactly presidential behavior from the man who is leader of his party, the country and the free world, but that's nothing new.
To say that Trump and McCain were often at odds and had a lack of respect for each other would be an understatement. One way to judge a politician's character is by the words they use. Let's compare some of their quotes and see who is the real hero and who is the wanna-never gonna be.
"In Prison, I fell in love with my country." vs "He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured."
Hmmmm.....guess which one had the bone spurs? Let's try another one? How about these on torture:
"We have to fight fire with fire. Does torture work? Yes, absolutely." vs "I don't give a damn what the president of the United States wants to do. We will not waterboard. We will not torture people. It doesn't work, my friends. It doesn't work."
Hmmmm....yeah, pretty sure the guy who was tortured for five years knows a little more about what works, ya think? Moving on, let's see how they talk about their political opponents:
"No ma'am. He's a decent family man. A citizen. I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign is all about." vs "If Hillary Clinton can't satisfy her husband, what makes her her think she can satisfy the country?"
Hmmmm.....classy vs not so much...and it'll get worse. Talking about class or lack of it, check these out:
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the capacity to act despite our fears." vs "When you're a star they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything."
Hmmm....okay, okay...a little overkill but how about just one more:
“Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history. We make history.” vs "Over 90% approval rating for your all time favorite (I hope) President within the Republican Party and 52% overall."
This final one is what our president came up with on Sunday. No surprises, right?!
So let's do the math: McCain 5-Trump 0. A complete game shut for a war hero and a great American.
Rest easy John McCain. You deserve your place in history.
"I've been tested a number of occasions. I haven't always done the right thing. But you will never talk to anyone that is as fortune as John McCain."--John Sidney McCain (August 29, 1936 – August 25, 2018)
