Let the gas gouging begin
It was three days ago that OPEC+ announced it was making changes in its oil production. They’ll be making cutbacks in the amount of two million barrels each day. The announcement pissed off many politicians, mostly Democrats.
The reactions range from the Saudis trying to influence the midterm elections to its time to cut off all relations with them. If this was a Seinfeld episode there would be a lot of yada, yada, yada.
Yeah, I understand why the politicians are ranting, but what I care about most is how this will affect us…and by us I mean ME!
It didn't take long to find out!
Yesterday, we needed to buy gas. The first stop was a station that is next door to where we buy groceries. They’re known for having higher gas prices than the other stations in the same city. You can see their price in the photo at the top—$ 4.99/gallon.
I knew it was going to be high, but I didn't think it would be this high.
It was off to another gas station. Their price was $4.59/gallon.
The two gas stations were in the same Chicago north suburban town. They are less than a mile apart. They sold the same type of gas.
So why is one forty cents a gallon more?
Earlier this week I noticed that gas prices in the area, from the same company, were down to $3.19/gallon. I commented that it looked like we were soon headed under the three-buck mark.
Hmmm…not so soon, my friends.
All it took was one announcement to raise prices…not even the actual cutback in production…just the words.
Guess what kids, it's going to get worse and soon. Look for prices to rise and they'll go up at a much faster rate than they decreased. Why? Because they're greedy and because they can.
Let the gas gouging begin. Hell, it's already started.
