Life's Been Good To Me So Far: The Theme Song of Gratitude
They say I'm crazy but I have a have a good time I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime Life's been good to me so far.
Friday night, I was at a memorial gathering for a friend/colleague who died last week. It was his second bout with Cancer and this time the dreaded disease got him. Lots of memories and a nice chunk of change was raised for a cancer charity. As I was going home, I was thinking about Cancer and how some of us have a relatively easy time with it (mine was taken care of in about two months. Clean and no recurrence) while others go through Hell. Those thoughts happen regularly and they are very much a "why me" moment.
While I am sad and heartbroken in a lot of those cases, I have a ton of gratitude that I didn't have to go through that.
Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through I can't complain but sometimes I still do Life's been good to me so far.
Last Tuesday, I was at a homeless shelter, helping out with a program for their volunteers. It was the shelter where I lived for more than a year. While I was there, I saw a couple of friends from that time who were living there again. For one of them, it was his second time there. The other was in his third go-round there. It's tough to escape homelessness. Recidivism for the homeless is common. Plenty make it out for a time but end up back in the street or a shelter.
I know I was and am lucky with this. I realize that if my circumstances were different, I could be in the same situation as my two friends. Yes, I feel for them but I'm thankful for how my life has gone since I left the shelter almost three years ago. Grateful. Every. Single. Day.
When I woke up on Saturday, this song was playing on my computer. It really is the theme song for gratitude. Joe Walsh has suffered addictions, the loss of a child and six marriages; yet he still shows how grateful he is for the good things in his life. You don't have to be Joe Walsh. Just take a peek around.
It's been a good week to be grateful!
They say I'm lazy but it takes all my time I keep on goin' guess I'll never know why Life's been good to me so far
