Little Feat has the Blues with “Sam’s Place”
Little Feat got its start in Los Angeles, in 1969. Three years later, Sam Clayton joined the band, as a percussionist and vocalist. He’s been a part of the group and all their lineup changes ever since.
One of Clayton’s goals as a musician was to do a record of the Blues. He didn't know if it could be done by the band. He also realized he was running out of time to do this as a solo act, not to mention it wouldn't be very commercial.
Who would have guessed, but more than fifty years after their formation, Little Feat has released an album of all Blues tunes. It’s titled “Sam’s Place”, named after Clayton, with Sam handling the lead vocals.
If you're going to record a Blues album, you need to use the legends of the genre to make it authentic. There are songs written by Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters and Little Walter. Bonnie Raitt contributes her talent to “Long Distance Call.” The album ends with a live version of the classic “Got My Mojo Workin’.”
“Sam’s Place” is the first studio album by Little Feat in a decade. It shows that after more than fifty years, you can teach an old band new tricks.
