Max Weinberg's Jukebox: The fun is better and more important than the music
There are times that when you attend a concert, that the memories and having fun are much better than the music itself....and there's nothing wrong with that. It's why shows such as The Happy Together tour and Cornerstones of Rock are so popular. People love to see the bands that for a couple of hours bring them back to their youth.
Fun and memories are what you get when you see Max Weinberg's Jukebox. Weinberg, the longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, has his own four-piece band that tours when he isn't playing with the Boss.
Here's how the show works...The video screen scrolls a list of more than one hundred songs from the artists and bands that you love. Included are tunes from The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and many other legends mostly from the world of classic rock. Max goes out into the audience, takes requests and then the band plays what you want to hear. It's almost like a jukebox. Plus, he occasionally has a story about the song or the artist.
Sunday night they played at the Ravina Festival in the north Chicago suburbs. The setlist included "Can't Buy Me Love", "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "Nowhere Man" from The Beatles, Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" and "Fire", "Pink Cadillac" and "Glory Days" from Bruce. Twenty-two songs in all. No, they weren't close to as good as the original, but they were all familiar and contributed to a night of fun....always a good thing.
If you're in the Chicago area, Max Weinberg's Jukebox plays tonight at the City Winery. I can't tell you what the setlist will be, that's up to you. I can tell you that you'll have a good time.
