Moving Day
Exactly one month from today will be the Chicago version of Parkinson's Disease Moving Day.
It's your typical charity walk. 5K which is about three miles. They'll have activities for kids. There's also a shorter walk for people who can't handle the 5K distance.
Naturally they are trying to raise money for Parkinson's research and awareness. Last year's goal was $150,000. They raised $250,000.
In the past, I've done walks for Alzheimers, Diabetes and various Cancer organizations. This is my first walk for this group.
I'm not taking donations this time. This year's goal is $250, 000 and they're already close to reaching that. Plus, next Thursday is the debut of The Michael J. Fox Show and his organization is using that for fundraising. More on that next week.
Shhhh....don't tell anyone I'm saying this but, but this disease gets plenty of money and recognition. MJF is on the cover of Rolling Stone. If you really want to donate, three of my cousins are walking for various charities. I also have some friends involved with Cancer groups. Find them and give. Better yet, give your time and help.
If I'm not raising money, why am I walking? Solidarity, brothers and sisters! Showing Support! helping those who can't make the distance.
So we're down to the last 30 days. Training gets serious now.....yeah, right. Three miles is nothing
It's going to be a fun few hours. Picture how entertaining it will be to watch people who can't walk in a straight line, bumping into each other for three miles. Roller derby without the helmets.
The countdown begins...............
