My 100 Year Old Aunt Is on Facebook
We are overwhelmed by social media.
How often are we bombarded by nonsensical Tweets? How many times do you see someone check-in on Facebook? Do you really care that I'm at a ballgame, concert or restaurant?
I barely care that I'm there and yet I continue to do it and so do many others.
And really...enough with the pictures of what you made for dinner....unless you're inviting me.
But there is one amazing thing about this and that's the chance to stay connected. Some people think that we are too connected but I disagree. And now it's not just for kids or baby boomers. Check this out.
Yesterday I received a Facebook notification that my 100 year old Aunt liked something I posted. It was a story about my Dad on his birthday, so I get why she liked it but that's not the point.
A 100 year old woman is Facebooking. How cool is that? And why shouldn't she? It makes a lot of sense.
My Aunt can't cruise around town or jet off somewhere to visit family, so this is how she can keep in touch.
And she's far from the only senior senior doing this.
Recently I saw a photo of a former classmate's mother Skyping with her sister. The women involved are 91 and 100 years old.
I HAVE NEVER SKYPED...NOT ONCE!!!
Let's take it down a generation...
This is a photo of a townhouse I lived in almost 60 years ago. After I posted the pic on Facebook, there were comments from two women who lived on the same block at the same time. We all met when we were age four.
It brought back memories of bike rides, chocolate Valentines and baseball in empty lots that are now fast food restaurants. You pave paradise, put up a parking lot (thanks Joni).
I'm amazed I still know these people. I love that I still know these people and so many others from the olden days.
So Aunt Sylvia, welcome to the world of social media. I look forward to seeing what you're having for dinner.
