My grandchild is way more popular than me!
Babies are cute! That's a given. Everyone loves a newborn.
I have a relatively new grandson. He turned four months old a couple of days ago. The novelty hasn't worn off yet (does it ever and if so, when?), so I'm still sharing pictures of him on Facebook. I like the ones where he has a big smile on his face. The kid either has a big personality or a lot of gas. It could be both. Plus, he actually is a very adorable little boy, so the combination of all it leads to some great photos.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks so. Every new photo gets a big reaction. The kid scores lots of likes, loves, laughs and whatever the hell that caring icon is. The number is always in the 100-125 range. Then come the comments. There are plenty of "adorable", "he's the cutest", "what a smile" and "awwwwe."
Yeah, all of this love for someone who is less than two-hundred days old is great and deserved. After all, he's an outstanding child, but it makes me wonder what I need to do to become close to as popular as him?
I'm not exactly chopped liver. I have my fair share of Facebook friends. I'm closing in on the one thousand mark. What? It doesn't really count if you don't actually know the person? Damn....maybe I am chopped liver.
Then there's this blog. Last year over one hundred thousand folks read something I wrote. Plus, we're closing in on one million readers through the nine years I've been writing here. That's got to count for something, right? Yeah, I know most of those numbers are for things I've written years ago, but c'mon. It's ONE MILLION!!!
The reality is maybe forty to fifty people will read most of my new posts. Sigh! When you compare that to the more than one hundred likes the baby gets, it shows he's more than twice as popular as me. SIGH!
The real question is how can I transfer some of my grandson's popularity onto me? I think I have discovered the answer. I'm going to publish a blog post with only photos of the kid. All baby smiles, all the time. Hmmm...that could even go viral. Lots of likes, loves, laughs and that caring thing. That should up my readership and my popularity with everyone... except the parents of my grandchild. Oh well....we had a good run!
