My letter to President Trump
As this blog post is being published, Donald Trump is being sworn in as our 45th President of the United States. Like it or not, he's going to be the leader of our country for the next four years....maybe longer.
There's a tradition that the outgoing POTUS leaves a personal message for the incoming POTUS. We've seen some of those letters from recent transitions and they've all been congratulatory and gracious, even in the most trying of situations.
This is what I'd write to our incoming leader....
Dear Donald, Congratulations on becoming our 45th President. You overcame great odds to win this office and you should be proud of that. You are now the leader of our country and I wish you the best and hope you are successful. This is a very trying time for our nation. The country is divided like never before. I pray that you will be the President for all Americans and not just the ones that voted for you. The one word of advice I would give you is compassion. The U.S. is very much a nation of haves and have-nots. The ones on the bottom have a tough way to go to get ahead. Please think of those who need help when making your decisions. Your choices will affect them the most. Good luck in your new position. The thoughts of the citizens of the world are with you.
Sincerely, HDM
