Neil Young is rocking in the free world as a United States citizen.
Neil Young dislikes the politics the current President of the United States. He wants to do something to change that. Young decided to become a U.S. citizen so he could vote against Donald Trump.
Although he was born in Canada and remains a Canadian citizen, it makes sense that he should also be a United States citizen. Young has lived here most of his life. He pays more in taxes than most people. His family members are all U.S. citizens. Combine that with his political views and Young decided the time was right to become a U.S.citizen and hold dual citizenship.
He studied the constitution, took the tests, passed the interviews and was ready to become a citizen last November. His application was held up because he admitted on an application that he used marijuana. This was a rule put in last year by the Trump administration.
The delay ended on Wednesday. Neil Young, flanked with his wife Daryl Hannah, went to the Convention Center, in downtown Los Angeles, for his naturalization ceremony. He left the building, holding his papers and waving a small American flag.
In November, Neil Young will be eligible to vote in a United States election for the first time. He also will be releasing a new album and hitting the road to tour again. Neil Young will still be rocking in the free world, but this time a citizen of the United States of America.
