Obamacare, Baby!!!!
I'm a chosen one!!
No, this has nothing to do with religion. I've been approved to receive CountyCare health insurance.
It sounds fancy, but it's the local version of the affordable care act, more commonly known as Obamacare. I knew about this last week but yesterday I got my first taste of government health care.
I haven't even received my card yet and yesterday I received a call from someone wanting to help me set up my first doctor's appointment. WOW!!! Great Customer service.
So my mind goes to work and I'm thinking I can go to any doctor in the county...and it's a big county. Why would I go to a place that made me wait around for six hours when I can go to a doctor in the burbs with little waiting? That's what I get for thinking.
Next I went to the CountyCare web site. They had a tab for specialist. I found the tab for neurology, clicked it and found the same neurologists that I'm assigned to see in about 10 days. SIGH!! I looked under Pulmonologist (my primary thinks I need one...a good story for another day..maybe tomorrow) and I find only doctors at that same location as my Neurologist. SIGH!!!
So I called the help desk this morning. They were very helpful. Told me I needed to see a primary doc to get the specialist referral. And really, that's no different than any other HMO. I now have an appointment to see a primary to get a referral. Date is Wednesday, September 11...SIGH!!
But yeah...Obamacare is working. Did it matter that I have Parkinson's? Not at all...cmon in...we'll take care of you. (btw..I love that aspect of the plan) I like the idea of CountyCare. I just wish I was in a different county!!
Are my options any better now? Well, not really. It just means that I have a card to go to a place where the government will pay the bill. What was it like before? Hmmmm...I would go to the same place, no card, and the government would have paid the bill. The difference....I HAVE A CARD!!!!
Let's recap.....
A couple of days ago I had a primary physician and a specialist. Today I have two primary physicians, a couple of specialist and maybe more as we go forward. All looking to do the same thing!!
Yeah baby....Obamacare....Canada is looking so much better today.
Sorry folks....I'd compare some more features but I just got a voice mail. The death panel wants me to call them back.
