On Bob Dylan's 80th birthday, here are some of my favorite cover versions of his songs
Happy Birthday to Bob Dylan. Today he turns eighty. That's right...80!!
While I'm a big fan of his songs, I like them better when they're sung by other artists. So to celebrate another decade of Bob, here are a few of my favorite Dylan tunes, interpreted by some of Bob's friends.
Mr Tambourine Man-The Byrds. This is the song that put this band on the road to stardom.
All Along The Watchtower- Jimi Hendrix. Many good versions of this tune, but none as powerful as Jimi's.
Knockin' On Heaven's Door-Warren Zevon. Zevon recorded this after learning of his terminal cancer diagnosis. That makes this version even more poignant.
If Not For You-George Harrison. Bob wrote this love song for his wife, Sara. The love didn't last. The album "Blood on the Tracks" came soon afterwards.
Finally....My Back Pages-From the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert. Some of Bob's friends and the world's best musicians combine in a tribute to Dylan.
Happy 80th, Bob. May you stay forever young!
