On the National Day of Writing, this is #WhyIWrite
Happy National Day of Writing. It's a day to celebrate words and the people who put them together. If you peruse social media, you'll see this. #WhyIWrite. We all have our reasons for #WhyIWrite. Here are some of mine.
We all need a creative outlet. We need a way to express ourselves. I can't paint or draw...I've tried. The only musical instrument I can play is air guitar. I'm pretty good but it's not enough. I can't sing. Be glad you've never heard that. But, I can put words together. I know how to put them on paper. I love to put them on paper. I need to put them on paper. It's my creative outlet.
I have stories to tell. The story could be personal. It could be something I notice by taking a peek at the world around us. Good or bad, I need to talk about these things.
To try to make a difference. Most of the time my writing gets no or little reaction. That's fine. No problem. Every so often, someone will make a comment or send me a message. Something I wrote made them laugh. Something I wrote made them cry. Something I wrote made them think. Something I wrote made them take action. When you get that kind of reaction, how can you stop writing? Why would you want to stop writing?
Because I have to write. I try to take breaks from writing. A day here...a week there. I had zero plans on writing anything today. Nothing! And yet, here I am...again. Writing is all encompassing. It gets in your head. It gets in your blood. It gets in your soul. Sure, I can skip it for a short time, but then I'll see or think about something and I know I need to react. I know I need to find the words. I know I have to find the words. I have to write. It's who I am.
