Happy Thanksgiving!
Each year on this holiday, I like to write a piece about gratitude. Most of the time it’s about something or someone in my life. Occasionally, I find an outside subject that moves me. Usually it’s fairly easy…at least it was until now.
I started this exercise with thoughts of my grandchildren. A lot of you know I have a new granddaughter. When I say new, I mean it. She’s now one month and a day old…errr…young. It would be easy to write a few hundred words about how grateful I am for her and her older brother…too easy. I wanted something a little different
My next plan was to talk about gratitude in general. Why do we only focus on it during Thanksgiving day? It didn’t feel upbeat enough for a turkey-day post. I can save it for another day after the holiday is over. How about tomorrow?
But then it hit me. How about showing a little gratitude for the folks who take a few minutes out of their day to read whatever drivel I have on my mind?! BINGO! And especially this year.
2022 has been a strange year for this column/blog/newsletter. We started out at the old place. In June, management quit on us and left the writers on our own. We were doing fine until the day they pulled the plug in mid-August. They left a lot of people hanging and scrambling to find a new writing home. Some never did.
I came over here. The move has pretty much been seamless. My subscribers at the old place have followed me to the new place. I’ve even picked up quite a few new readers. The numbers show that more people are reading or at least clicking on my new work than before I came to Substack. I’m amazed and I’m shocked because I know how wrong this move could have gone. But most of all I’m grateful for all of this.
I never take it for granted that you are spending time that could be spent doing something else. So, on this Thanksgiving Day I want to say this…THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! Know that when I look at the number of readers for this piece, I’ll be thinking of YOU!
Enjoy your holiday. See you on the other side.
i'm glad the move went well. your grandkids are wonderful!
