One week until election day. How stressed are you?
Seven days to go. One short week that will feel like one long year. STRESS!!
So many of us have been waiting four years for this day. It's so close that we can feel it. We're one week away from ending our nightmare. We're one week away from having a somewhat normal life again. All the signs are leading towards this. We're so hopeful, but we can't help but think about 2016. Hell, I barely think about anything else. It's taken up a huge portion of my life. It's taken up a too big portion of my life. STRESS!!
I look at the polls and it somewhat calms me. Biden has a big national lead. He's going to win the popular vote. BIG FUCKING DEAL! So did Hillary and we now have three new Trump-appointed Supreme Court Justices. My head aches writing that. STRESS!!
The individual states look good, too. Joe is leading the battleground states that matter. Just flip Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and you'll have it won. So Joe, why are you and Kamala hitting up Georgia, Texas and Arizona? Yeah, a blowout would be great, but don't you remember 2016? I don't need a blowout. Winning by one electoral college point works for me....and for you...and for all of us! STRESS!!
In the meantime, Don, Mike and their ilk are holding events in Michigan, Wisconsin and especially Pennsylvania. They will basically be living there for the next week. Does this sound familiar? Does this remind you of a time in the past? My stomach hurts just thinking about this. STRESS!!
Back to the Supreme Court...Amy what's her name was just sworn in as the newest justice. If the election is contested and makes its way to the highest court, can you trust them to rule impartially? You can't possibly think they would betray their benefactor by ruling against him? They've already made a ruling that will lead to voter suppression in Wisconsin. It's doubtful we'll ever a true count of the votes in Wisconsin. That's Trump's America in 2020. STRESS!!
I know I should do something else to try to clear my brain. I've tried, but it's hard to get away. I was watching a game show on television, but my fingers took my remote to MSNBC. Seeing Steve Kornacki at his big board, talking about all of the paths to 270 doesn't help. STRESS!!
I next tried to listen to the new Bruce Springsteen album. You'd think a rock and roll record about death and aging would make anyone feel better (eyeroll/sarcasm). I couldn't concentrate on the lyrics. I'll try again later, but I'm not expecting it to be any different. STRESS!!
I can't help but think back to something I heard last Sunday. I was visiting my new grandson and his parents. My daughter told me they have a baby book for him. There's a space for his first president and they've filled it with the word terrible in orange crayon. I know that who we now have in office will always be his first president, but it would be great if the length of that is only a couple of months instead of close to five years. STRESS!!
I'm now at the stage of life where many of my friends have grandchildren of their own. I know many others that have their own young children. We all want better lives for those kids more than we want it for ourselves. Yeah, they would most likely survive four more years of this crap, but that would only make the recovery from all of this take longer. Much, much longer! STRESS!!
So c'mon Joe, Kamala, Barack and everyone else on this team. There's one long week to go and you all need to dig in deep and get the job done. Do it for yourself. Do it for all of us who have hated the last four years. Do it for the children of this nation. Do it for Lev and his baby book! STRESS!!!
