Parkinson's Awareness Month: 30 Days- 30 Stories/Day Six- Music Therapy For Me
Yesterday, I posted a story about things former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart had been doing, involving the brain. It's revolutionary.
It got me thinking about how I use music when I'm feeling off.
I started doing this last fall. When my brain or my body was overworked, I'd find a nice quiet spot and listen to some tunes. I admit that sometimes there's some Valium involved, but not as much as you would think.
The odd thing is the choice of songs that gave me relief. You'd probably guess some soft rock or smooth jazz. I would have, also. We'd all be wrong.
It wasn't actually the song, but it was a part of it that I could focus upon. There would be a guitar part in one, a bass line in another, a drum pattern in a third one. I'd set my mind on that and it seems to relax me. It's almost like meditating to classic rock.
In January, I had three MRIs. They are really loud. It made this pounding sound. After a while, I turned the noise into a drum beat. The noise became Ginger Baker playing "White Room". It put me to sleep. Weird but whatever works.
Here are some songs that work for me...
