Parkinson's Awareness Month:30 Days-30 Stories/Day 12-Linda Joins The Hall Of Fame
"I haven't given it one thought. It wasn't something I ever thought about. I don't have anything against it, you just don't do things for those reasons. If you're working for prizes, you're in trouble."~Linda Ronstadt
The above words were from Linda Ronstadt, giving her thoughts on being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Ronstadt was inducted on Thursday night. She was unable to attend. Parkinson's Disease, which ended her singing career, also makes it difficult to travel.
Glenn Frey, of the Eagles, gave her induction speech. Frey, who got his big musical break being part of her band, put it simply, "It's about time."
The performances of her music were done by Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, Carrie Underwood and Sheryl Crow. The song list: Different Drum, Blue Bayou, You're No Good, It's So Easy and When Will I Be Loved.
Emmylou Harris talks about her longtime friend, " She's the one who brought me out. She had me sing in clubs and on records...and has been an extraordinary friend to me. She's one of the most caring and intelligent people who happens to have one of the most beautiful voices on the planet."
The other HOF inductees were Nirvana, Hall and Oates, The E-Street Band, Cat Stevens, KISS and Peter Gabriel. But for the Parkinson's community, the night was all about Linda Ronstadt...one of our own.
" I don't consider myself a rock and roll singer. It's just something I sing. I don't define myself that way."~ LR
