Parkinson's Awareness Month:30 Days-30 Stories/Day Fourteen-Moving Day 2014
It's springtime. After a brutal winter, the weather is finally nice. Warm temps...sun...walks in the park.
Talking about walks in the park, it also means we'll be starting the charity walk season. From now through November, even longer in places like Hawaii, California and Florida, the streets, parks and lakefronts will be inundated with walkers/runners for various charities.
Last year in Chicago, there were close to 300 walks/runs/bike rides. You'd think the city would be concerned with all this foot traffic but they get their share of the cash. Fees to the park district run from $365 to $12K. Last year they raised more than $10 million in fees.
The events run from The Aids Walk/Run to Ron Santo's Walk To Cure Diabetes. There are even teams representing charities in the Chicago Marathon.
The National Parkinson's Foundation has their event called Moving Day. Last year, in Chicago, their event raised more than $350,000. That was $100,000 more than their goal.
Besides the 5K, there will be different booths where you can find all kinds of information ranging from Yoga and Relaxation tents to new products and treatments.
This years event will be on Sunday, October 19. The goal will be $350,000. To find out when Moving Day events are in your city check the website or the Facebook page of The National Parkinson's Foundation.
