Parkinson's Disease and Movement Specialists
I've had Parkinson's Disease for almost two years...probably longer since it takes a long time to get diagnosed. It's one of the strangest diseases you can imagine. Seems like every day researchers are finding new things...some good, some not as much.
Early on, I jumped on the alternative treatment bandwagon. All it took was one look at the side effects from PD drugs and I thought there had to be a better way.
In the last year, I've written numerous blogs about alternative treatments. I've found things like art/music therapy to boxing can work in the fight against Parkinson's.
A Wall Street Journal Article talks about Movement Specialists and the effects they have treating Parkinson's patients.
A few did you knows....More than 25% of Parkinson's patients do not see a Neurologist regularly. Only about 50% of PD patients knew about Movement Specialists. Only about 28% of PD patients were seeing one.
The great thing about Movement Specialists is they will get Parkinson's patients on the right track. They'll find a program that fits the individual's needs. We're always taught that to keep moving is the best way to live an active life with Parkinson's. These are the people who can help the most.
Is this getting us closer to a cure for Parkinson's? No but it's making it easier to live with and at this point that's all a lot of us ask for.
