Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself

Please allow me to introduce myself. I’m a man of wealth and taste.

Hmmm-wealth? Naaaa. Taste? It depends on whom you ask.

But since this is column number one at Substack, it seems appropriate to take a quick minute to introduce myself and what will be going on in this space.

I started writing a blog of this same name at the ChicagoNow site almost a decade ago. The original focus was on my trials and tribulations with a recently diagnosed case of Parkinson’s Disease. My brilliant idea was to write enough pieces that would move into book form. BUZZ!!

What happened was I found other subjects at least as interesting as P.D., so I wrote about those, too. Man, did I write. About 1,500 columns…and man are my hands and fingers tired.

Why the change?

ChicagoNow is owned by the Tribune Company/Alden and if you keep up with publishing news, and you definitely should, you know that things are in constant flux over there. Since July 1, there has been no management overseeing the site and the writers have been left on their own….which in actuality isn’t a bad thing. But, word has filtered down that Trib/Alden is closing us down. When? No one knows. Could be today. Could be tomorrow. Could be in a few years. NO ONE KNOWS!

With all the uncertainty, a guy has to be prepared. Nothing wrong with change, right? I did a little research. Found out both Steve Schmidt and Patti Smith write here, along with a few of my former colleagues, so that’s good enough for me….and here I am!

So, you’ll see me here fairly regularly. I’m going to take it slow at first. Look for something new every Monday or Tuesday. It could be health/wellness related but more likely it’ll be a concert or album review, travel, food, sports or Trump. I write too much about Trump…way too much. I also like to keep it light for the most part. The world and life is wayyyyyy too serious in 2022.

I also promise as I learn to navigate this site, the columns will look better. There may even be a picture or graphic…well, at least a picture.

So for those who know me, stick around. For those who are new, welcome. Hang out awhile. It’ll be fun…and I’ll work on that wealth and taste thing.
