Rachel Maddow has advice on how to save your life from skin cancer
Rachel Maddow went to a baseball game with her life partner, Susan Mikula. During the game, Susan noticed that a mole on Maddow's neck had changed in color and shape. When Maddow questioned this, she was told to check it out with someone else who regularly saw this mole, her hairstylist. The second opinion confirmed this.
Rachel Maddow had been absent from her MSNBC program for a few days. This was nothing unusual as she has plenty of vacation time and uses it often. When she returned last night, she informed the viewers that the reason for her absence was because she had surgery to remove skin cancer. Here's what she had to say:
"Even the skin cancers that are the deadliest skin cancers in this country — those too — are way more treatable than they used to be. On one condition: That you get them early."
And that's exactly what she did. With a little help, she found a mole that had changed and did something about it. It's that simple!
Here's the deal....one out of five Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of seventy. That's twenty percent of us. It's the most common of all cancers. Ninetynine percent of skin cancer cases are curable if caught early and treated.....that's the key to catch it and do something about it.
One final statement from Rachel that may help save your life:
"You do need to get this stuff checked by a doctor. Do not blow it off."
