Ravinia Festival 2022: More of the same old same old
Summer is around the corner. You can tell it's getting close when the Ravinia Festival announces its concert schedule.
Like most businesses, Ravinia took a hit due to the Covid pandemic. The 2020 season was canceled. Last summer they returned with a smaller schedule with a limited amount of attendees. But now they're back to what is considered normal, so there was great excitement and anticipation when the schedule was announced on Thursday.
There are more than one hundred concerts on the 2022 schedule. If you're a fan of classical music, you're in luck. There will be many opportunities to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. However, you're an aficionado of pop/classic rock, while there are plenty of shows in those genres, most of them are acts that have made multiple appearances at Ravinia. Some of those performers include Jackson Browne on June 17, Steve Miller on June 23, Sheryl Crow on July 7, John Fogerty on July 8, Lyle Lovett on July 10, Bonnie Raitt on July 27, Sting on August 27 & 28, Diana Ross on September 4, and Stevie Nicks on September 8 & 10.
I have nothing against any of these performers. They're all legends in the world of popular music. I've seen all of them and have even done reviews on their shows at this venue. I just want some new artists that would get me excited to make the trip to suburban Highland Park. I guess it could be worse. They could have multiple nights of the band Chicago for what seems like the hundredth time.
The Ravinia Festival opens on June 15 and runs through September 18. Here's a look at the entire schedule: ravinia.org/calendar
