Schools Out Forever
The children in the Chicago Public School System are finally back in school. Now almost every child from Kindergarten through college has returned for the 2014-2015 school year....except for my daughters.
For the first time since 1993, I don't have a kid in school. I have mixed emotions.
I'm happy both girls have graduated college and are starting adult lives. OY!! My babies are adults. How did that happen? I'm not even an adult.
I miss buying school supplies. I miss the big box of 64 crayons. I miss the excitement of finding out who is this years new teacher. I miss Bingo night at Devonshire school. I miss PTA meetings and the PTA moms...well okay, that not so much.
This is me and my daughter Amy, at a preschool Thanksgiving party, in Tustin, California. Two years later we were living in Chicago. Because the rules and deadlines were different, I had to change her birthday on her birth certificate so she could get into 1st grade. One of my finest parenting moments.
The statute of limitations are up on that crime against humanity, so to Skokie District 68...BITE ME!!.
I tried to do it the right way but they were stubborn and wouldn't listen. Amy became the youngest girl in Illinois history with a fake ID.
She'll turn 24 in three weeks. For her, schools been out for two years and she's back living in Southern California. Full circle!
This is the school finale. My youngest daughter's college graduation in May 2014. The two girls were college roomies all four years. I was surprised that the only Moore crying that day was Kimi.
Both girls are involved in serious relationships. The one not crying is getting married next Spring. I'm pretty sure the blonde is going to follow. I'm good with that. I like her guy. GRANDCHILDREN!!!!
Apparently the kids have adjusted to life without school. Dad...well he still has some growing up to do.
No more pencils, no more school books. No more teachers dirty looks. SCHOOLS OUT COMPLETELY.
