Seattle Seahawks star Bobby Wagner makes it a happy Thanksgiving for his community
Like many major U.S. cities, Seattle has a homelessness problem. More than 12,000 people are living on the streets, shelters or temporary housing.
Seattle Seahawks' star linebacker Bobby Wagner is now in his eighth season with the team. He's a five time All-pro, a key member of their 2013 Super Bowl championship team and looks like he's headed towards induction in the NFL Hall of Fame. He also believes in giving back and making thing better for his community.
Wagner has teamed with the Low Income Housing Institute on a project to provide housing for the homeless and low-income community. Last summer, Wagner visited the Institute's nine tiny house homeless villages to provide food, services and equipment for the residents. He also purchased nine homes to help get more families off the street. He has plans to purchase more.
Last Tuesday, Wagner was at it again. He went to a local Safeway grocery store to purchase food so the families living in the tiny homes would have a Thanksgiving dinner. While in the store, Wagner had an idea. He decided to purchase food for everyone there shopping. For the next half hour, Bobby Wagner paid for everyone's groceries.
His plan was to get in, buy the food and get out without being noticed. That's the way Wagner likes it. He wants his charitable work to be low key and doesn't want any attention. He told Seattle's News Tribune:
“I don’t really care if people see that I do it, or notice that I do it, or even recognize that it was me doing it. I just do it because I feel like there are a lot of people out there that need a hand, and, you know, I try to lend a hand. I don’t need a lot of acknowledgment or want people to pat me on the back, or whatever. I just want to help the people that I feel I can help. And if there’s an opportunity that I can help, I do it.
However, good deeds and the people who do them deserve attention. Bobby Wagner made sure a happy Thanksgiving was had by all.
Tonight, the Seattle Seahawks take the field to play the Minnesota Vikings. Bobby Wilson will be on defense trying to make game saving plays. Off the field, Bobby Wilson continues to make life saving plays for the residents of Seattle.
